NATO Industry Forum 2019



NATO Air Ops CoE participated to the NATO Industry Forum 2019 (NIF 19) in Washington, DC, 13-14 November 2019. NIF 19 was a great opportunity to commemorate the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s 70th anniversary.

Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, addressed a speech in the prestigious ballroom used to sign the NATO’s charter in 1949. He underlined the importance for all Allies to further develop partnership with industry and academia to keep pace with technological advances through innovation. Then Général André Lanata, Commander of the Supreme Allied Command Transformation, reminds that to further strengthen NATO’s deterrence and defence posture, it is important to harness emerging and disruptive technologies and to adapt our decision-making processes. Those topics were discussed through various panel. 


During one of them, Mr Herman Narula, CEO of Improbable Worlds Limited, elaborated on video game emerging technology potential appliance:


- to move military Plans from static to dynamic; 

- to stimulate creativity and play (Wargaming during planning phase); 

- to detect “plans” and format operational cognitive response (Artificial Intelligence already mature to do so); 

- to develop operational tactics “models”, pending scales limitation which should Through one of the panel’s studies;

- to create distributed connection architecture of  several models in order to create a comprehensive/robust anticipated analysis; 

- to provide virtual representation in support of decision makers cognitive human approach.

As part of main conclusions, experimentation, which should represent the unique pragmatic relationship between military and industry, and learning curve of senior leader should represent the foundation to maintain the Alliance technological edge.  #NIF19 #ACT
